YOUR VERY OWN ATOMIC CLOCK
--------------------------
I recently came upon a nifty way to set your computer's internal clock
with the accuracy of the Master Atomic Clock at the U.S. Naval
Observatory. Actually there are two ways. The first is to visit
The USNO at http://tycho.usno.navy.mil/what.html
and choose from a RealAudio broadcast of the USNO Master Clock Voice
Announcer, a static display of USNO Time in Standard Time Zones, or
the USNO Master Clock Animated GIF Clocks. You can easily compare
your computer's time to the atomic clock and make adjustments this
way.
Another more automatic way is to download a free Windows program at
http://www.raha.com/tucows/softsync.htm
This little program will automatically set your system clock to the
master atomic clock when you run it, or you can add it to your startup
folder and have it run each time you turn on your computer. It does
of course require a connection to the Internet to perform this amazing
feat. It also has a nifty little digital clock display that'll float
on your desktop, and an alarm feature.
A similar Mac (shareware) program can be found at
http://www.lava.net/~kirill
OTHER STUFF
-----------
Just a reminder: You can signon, signoff, or temporarily suspend your
TOURBUS subscription on the web now. Just visit the TOURBUS home page
(see link above) and click on the TICKETS link. If you're going to be
away for the summer, it might be a good idea to suspend your
subscription until you're back, so your inbox doesn't overflow.
Also, a number of people wrote to say they had problems ordering my
book "Juno: Free E-Mail and More". Turns out I made a typo on the
ordering link, which is fixed now. Sorry! If you want to give it
another shot, click below:
