Howdy, y'all. As always, we have a couple of things to talk about
today. In fact, because we have so many different things to talk
about, today's TOURBUS post may seem a tad bit disjointed at times.
Just pretend I planned it that way. :)

Before we get today's disjointed journey of our little bus of Internet
happiness underway, let's pay a few bills. Make sure to stop by and
thank today's sponsors for keeping our bus on the road (and don't
forget to look at today's TOURBUS logo).

And now, on with the show ...

----------------------------------
UPDATE ON THE OLYMPIC PARK BOMBING
----------------------------------

Our veteran TOURBUS riders will remember my posts about the Centennial
Olympic Games in Atlanta (TOURBUS 18 July 1996) and about the tragic
Olympic Park Bombing a few days later (TOURBUS 30 July 1996). We even
spent a little time talking about the United States' Federal Bureau of
Investigation's ongoing search for material witnesses to the bombing

(TOURBUS 13 March 1997).

According to recent reports from CNN

Steel plates from the bomb that exploded in Atlanta's Centennial
Olympic Park have been linked to Eric Robert Rudolph, the suspect
in the January 29, 1998, bombing of an Alabama women's clinic
     that performs abortions.

The FBI and United States Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms
(ATF) have launched a nation-wide manhunt for Eric Robert Rudolph. As
part of that manhunt, the FBI and ATF have created a Web page at

     http://WWW.FBI.GOV/pressrel/rudolph/birm.htm

that contains a couple of pictures of Rudolph (actually, the page is a
little bit old -- it still says that Rudolph is only a possible
"witness" to the Alabama bombing).

Do me a favor: even if you are a hermit and never stray far from the
warm, comforting glow of your computer screen -- in other words, even
if you are like me -- take a look at the FBI/ATF's Web page and see if
you recognize Eric Robert Rudolph. I think a lot of people will
breathe a little easier once this guy is brought in for questioning.

By the way, if you want more information about the Olympic Park
bombing and the ongoing investigation, check out CNN's "Olympic Park
Bombing Who Did It?" pages at

     http://cnn.com/US/9707/olympic.park.bombing/who.did.it/

Oh, and if you are still looking for a reason to visit the FBI/ATF's
Web page, consider this: CNN also reports that, in the Olympic Park
Bombing, there is still a US$500,000 reward is being offered for
information leading to an arrest.

--------------------
ANOTHER URBAN LEGEND
--------------------

The latest story floating around the Net says that Mrs. Osberg, an
elementary school teacher in Salt Lake City, Utah, (site of the 2002
Winter Olympic Games!) wants to teach her students about large
numbers. In particular, she wants to teach her students what a
million looks like. So, she has taken to the Internet to ask that
everyone in the world snail mail her students as many aluminum soft
drink can pull tabs as possible.

Yeah, right.

Well, being the true skeptic that I am, your fearless bus driver
actually called Mrs. Osberg's elementary school in Utah to see if this
story is true. Brace yourself, folks ... the story _IS_ true! Mrs.
Osberg _REALLY_ does want to teach her students what a million looks
like, and she _REALLY_ does want people to send her students aluminum
soft drink pull tabs.

So, if you are interested in helping Mrs. Osberg's students learn what
a million looks like, send your soft drink pull tabs to

     Mrs. Osbergs Fourth Grade Class
     Meadowlark Elementary
     497 Morton Drive
     Salt Lake City, UT 84116

Between you and me, I have a real sinking feeling that this whole
thing is going to blow up in Mrs. Osberg's face. Although her
original letter explicitly says that you shouldn't "send anything to
the school after June 1st 1998," you and I both know that someone is
going to remove that date and keep forwarding her request around the
Net for many years to come. That's not necessarily a bad thing,
though. Mrs. Osberg has already made plans to donate all of the

aluminum pull tabs that she receives to a local charity. The charity
will then sell the tabs to a Salt Lake City aluminum recycling
company.

Still, if Mrs. Osberg's wish is to teach her students about large
numbers, I have no doubt her wish will come true. In fact,
considering the life this story is bound to have on the Internet for
years to come, I have no doubt Mrs. Osberg's fourth grade class will
receive pull tabs well into their college years. :)

SOME REAL AUDIO NOTES
---------------------

Lee and Wolfe, the number one college radio show in America (TOURBUS
18 September 1997), can now be heard live on the Net every Friday
night from 5:00 PM to 8:00 Central Time (2300 to 0200 GMT, I think).
To hear the show, just point your Web browser to

    http://v91.simplenet.com/leewolfe/audio/liveshow.htm

or point your Real Audio player to

    http://v91.simplenet.com/leewolfe/audio/theshow.ram

Your fearless bus driver can also be heard live on the Net (and on the
radio) every week. WGN Radio in Chicago recently asked me to be their
resident "Internet Mythologist," so every Wednesday night I go on the
air (on the Website Wednesday portion of the "Steve and Jonnie" show)
and debunk Internet urban legends.

If you are up at 11:20ish PM Central Time (0520ish GMT) Wednesday
nights, point your Web browser to

     http://wgnradio.com/

and then click on the "Listen" button. If you are in the United
States or Canada and have an AM radio, you can also listen to WGN on
your radio at AM 720 (WGN reaches 38 states and most of Canada).

That's it for this week. Have a safe and happy weekend, and be
looking for a post from me next Thursday from the 1998 Spring Internet
World conference in Los Angeles! :)
